For Mikey Hodges

Shortly after these records were pressed, Memories band member Mikey Hodges was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles. All proceeds from this record will go to Mikeyʼs family.

Expertly recorded to 2” tape at Kutch 1 Studios and dynamically mixed and produced by Zach Phillips of Blanche Blanche Blanche, Wharf Cat Records is proud to release our love-letter to the West, Tell Me b/w Donʼt be a Drag by The Memories. Recorded back in the steamy Summer of 2013 while the Memories were out on tour with White Fang and Colleen Green. Tell Me was put to tape in between their New York and Boston gigs on this tour. The studio secured more weed, pizza and beer a few days later and Donʼt be a Drag was recorded before the band headed south again. Phillipʼs production touch is felt on Tell Me where drums and vocals dip in and out and pan from left to right, accentuating the arrangement.

This is a classically balanced 7” record. The A-Side is a lurid late night come-on in feigned call-and-response while the B documents the point when a loverʼs lameness is shown the broad daylight it demands. The beginning and the end both tinged with equal bitterness, longing and edge. The tracks are coupled with original artwork by Los Angeles based artist, Joe Zorilla which accentuates the inner longing felt throughout these two stone soul jams.
